Hope McRight

January 18, 1923 ~ December 6, 2016 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Mrs. Hazel Hope McRight died peacefully at her home in Florence, Alabama on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the age of 93.

Mrs. McRight is survived by three beloved sons: Stephen H. McRight, of Rogersville; Thomas D. McRight and his wife, Beth Johnston McRight, of Florence; and Tulon Conrad McRight, Jr. and his wife, Glenna Woods McRight, of Huntsville.  She is also survived by eight grandchildren (Patrick S. McRight, Dr. Tamsie Coker Rogers, Laura McRight Stevenson, Dr. Matthew J. Coker, Joshua C. McRight, Thomas Dare McRight, Jr., Martin G. McRight, and Emily J. McRight) and five great-grandchildren.  Other survivors include a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. McRight is preceded in death by her husband, Tulon C. McRight; her daughter, Sharon Rose Coker; her parents, Homer E. and Myrtle E. Harris; her sister, Gladys McNally; her brothers Homer E. Harris, Jr. and William C. “Rosim” Harris; as well as her daughter-in-law Martha Flippo McRight and her son-in-law Jimmy D. Coker.

Mrs. McRight was a devout Christian and a faithful member of the Mars Hill Church of Christ for over 60 years.  As a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who poured her life into the wellbeing of her family, she profoundly impacted each family member, cultivating in each one a sense of self-worth, tender-heartedness, and compassion for others.   A gifted cook, “MawMaw” had a passion for unpretentious hospitality, going to any length to assure guests were welcomed, fed, and pampered like royalty.  She never lost her curiosity for trying new things, her sense of wonder at God’s creation, her love of animals, or her genuine interest in the lives of the people around her.  Her sense of beauty found expression not only in her talents as an oil painter and gardener but also in countless thoughtful acts that endeared her to people throughout her life.

Visitation will be held from 12 -2 p.m., Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Greenview Funeral Home in Florence.  A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Chris Moran, Minister of the Mars Hill Church of Christ, and Pat McRight, Mrs. McRight’s oldest grandson, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Hospice of the Shoals (phone 256-767-6699, 115 Fairground Rd., Florence 35630) or to the Christian charity of your choice.  Mrs. McRight had a very special place in her heart for Christian missions that provide medical care, educational assistance, or basic needs for children in China, Mexico, and similar places.
