Harold Hammond, Jr. Obituary

Harold Eugene Hammond Jr., 71, of Florence, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018.


Harold was preceded in death by his beloved wife and best friend of 44 years, Cyndi; his father, Harold Eugene Hammond Sr.; and his mother, Thelma Counce Hammond.

 

He is survived by his sister, Brenda Hammond McLain (Ken); brother-in-law, William Lewis Yuille III (Vicki); niece, Kendra Susan McLain; nephews, William Lewis Yuille IV (Angela), and William Todd Yuille (Elizabeth); and great-nephews, Walker Yuille, Nolan Yuille, and William Yuille. Harold is also survived by his best friend/sweetheart/caretaker of three years, Donna Reaves.

 

Harold was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He enjoyed working on the Phantom F4E during his tour of duty in Vietnam.

 

He worked for BellSouth for almost forty years. He began his career as a lineman and retired as an advanced systems technician for AT&T at ECM.

 

Harold was a founding member of the Muscle Shoals Area Street Rods and enjoyed all the friendships and activities.

 

Harold was an avid baseball and football fan. He enjoyed cheering for UNA and Alabama. One of his favorite trips was attending the 1996 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska with Cyndi.

 

Visitation will be Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service with military honors will be Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 2 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park. Brother Chad Hess will be officiating.


Pallbearers include Lacy Herrin, Bill Brown, Terry Helton, Terry Kennamore, Marcus Hines, Mike Lane, Dr. John Young, and Freddy McCluskey.


Honorary pallbearers: Neal Bishop, Tommy Higgenbothem, Russ Counce, and all members of the Muscle Shoals Area Street Rods.


The family would like to give special thanks to Harold’s friend Letty Sarmiento; cousin and friend Russ Counce; and friend Dr. John Young. Thank you to all the doctors and nurses involved in Harold’s care.


Memorials may be made to the Florence Lauderdale Animal Shelter, Wounded Warrior Project, Woodmont Baptist Church, or your favorite charity.
