Dorothy Jean “Dottie” Charles, 85, of Killen, passed away on her birthday, January 18, 2015 at her residence after an extended struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Florence. Dottie attended U.N.A. later in life in 1972. She graduated in 1980 with a B.S. degree in Social Work with Magna Cum Laude honors. After graduation she received her social work license in the state of Alabama where she volunteered her services to Safe Place, ECM Hospital, and in church activities.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 1 – 2 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Robert Sparkman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Charles was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Marjorie Clendenin.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Stephen C. Charles; son, Dana Charles of Moulton, AL; daughter, Carole Stafford of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Ellen Russell of Ogden, Utah; grandchildren, Keri Charles Gilley of Moulton, AL, Noel Stafford of Cincinnati, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Pearson Gilley of Moulton, AL, Madeleine and Eleanor Stafford of Cincinnati, Ohio.
