Dora Ernestine (McNeece) Sullivan

Dora Ernestine McNeece Sullivan, 77, of Florence, originally from Polkville, Mississippi passed away on April 26, 2017 at home after an extended illness. Mrs. Sullivan was a loyal and faithful member of St. John United Methodist Church. She served many years with Church Women United and volunteered many hours with Friends of the Library. She served as a volunteer with the first hospice service in the Shoals area. She was a 1961 graduate of Mississippi College with a BS in Elementary Education and was named student teacher of the year her senior year. She was a member of Alpha Lamda Delta Honor Society.  She was a homemaker and a substitute teacher. She also worked at Rogers Department Store.

Mrs. Sullivan was preceded in death by her parents, Luke and Ethel McNeece; two sisters, Doris Jean Hales and Maudine Thompson; two brothers, John McNeece and Earl McNeece.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jack M. Sullivan, her sons, Matthew Sullivan and his wife, Suzanne of Canton, Ohio and Michael Sullivan of Troy, Alabama; granddaughter, Audrey Sullivan of Kennesaw, Georgia; her sisters, Vera Thompson of Forest, Mississippi, Pat Warfield (Ted) of Kearney, Nebraska, Neyoma Sawin (Bill) of Braxton, Mississippi; her brothers, Jerry McNeece (Louise) of Polkville, Mississippi, Jimmy McNeece of Polkville, Mississippi and 28 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 (Noon) - 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at St. John United Methodist Church with the funeral following at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Greg Burnett. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Todd Flatt, Jim Cummings, David McNeece, Philip Sawin, Andrew Davis, Dino Ienni, Keith McPeters and William Johnston.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to St. John United Methodist Church.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to her special caregiver, Sheryl McCaig, Dr. Felix Morris and staff, Suzanne Oneil and Beth Butler of the Alacare Staff.
