Buford Lee Mays, Jr.

Buford Lee Mays, Jr., 74, of Florence, passed away on January 20, 2018 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. He retired as a manager with Publix supermarkets and was a winner of the George W. Jenkins award. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Compass Island. He was a world traveler.  He loved fishing, scuba diving and golf.

The memorial service will be at Greenview Funeral Home on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with Pastor Greg Burnett officiating.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buford Lee Mays, Sr. and Nell Luthell Stockton Mays.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Phillips Mays of Florence; sister-in-law, Emily Phillips Thrasher (Bill) of Decatur, Alabama; brother, William David Mays (Lavonda) of Florence; sister, Beth Mays Bullock (Steve) of Killen; nephews, Todd Mays (Kim), Chris Mays (Stacy), Nathan Hyde (Allie),Trevor Hyde (Amy), and D. J. Mays of Florence, Alabama; nieces, Star Bullock of Birmingham, Alabama and Alyson Thrasher Quinn of Decatur, Alabama.
