Bill Oakley, 84, of Florence, passed away February 20, 2017 at Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing and Rehab Center. He was a member of the Petersville Church of Christ and the American Legion; owner of Bill Oakley Grocery from 1958 – 1964; owner of Bill Oakley Used Cars from 1964 – 1992; and he also owned a logging company and had a contract with Champion Paper/International Paper from 1992 – 2004.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 22, 2017 from 11-2 p.m. at Petersville Church of Christ. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. at the church with his grandsons, Chad, Jonathan, and Austen Oakley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
Mr. Oakley was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Oakley, Sr.; mother, Atwood Simmons Oakley; sister, Geraldine Lindsey; and brothers, W.T. Oakley, Robert Oakley, Floyd Oakley, Jr., Herschel Oakley, and Charles Oakley.
He is survived by his wife, Ann May Oakley; sons, DeWayne Oakley (Monica), Terry Oakley (Marsha); brother, Don Oakley (Jean); sister, Shirley Oakley Wooten (Billy) all of Florence; grandchildren, Chad Oakley (Valerie) of Florence, Tara Oakley Thompson (Sam) of Decatur, Colby Oakley, Jonathan Oakley (Emily), Eric Oakley (Sarah), Austen Oakley (Bailey) all of Florence, Trent Tiffin of Tuscumbia, Brock Tiffin of Tuscaloosa; and great-grandchildren, Scott Oakley, Lily and Silas Oakley, Foster and Jack Thompson, and Denton Oakley.
Active pallbearers will include: Chad, Jonathan, Eric, Austen, Colby, and Scott Oakley, Trent and Brock Tiffin, Sam Thompson, and Charles Watkins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Wooten, Wayne Mitchell, Jack Masterson, Clyde Danley, and the ushers at Petersville Church of Christ.
